The Pathways to Technology project is a multimedia outreach effort created to raise awareness of the National Science Foundation’s Advanced Technology Education (ATE) programs, currently operating at community colleges around the country. Developed by the WGBH Educational Foundation in Boston, the Pathways to Technology project showcases ATE programs to prospective students and the people who influence them via engaging multimedia resources: Videos enable the viewer (i.e. potential student, counselor, parent, etc.) to see images of a variety of students in a range of disciplines, a companion Web site expands on the topics addressed in the videos, and a CD-Rom recruitment toolkit outlines how community colleges can incorporate these resources into three types of recruitment events. Throughout the project, the external evaluator, Rockman et al, maintained contact with 15 model community colleges with ATE programs and collected data to examine the use, utility, and adaptability of project resources.
